SANDALS Barbados Resort and Spa has announced the promotion of Melanie Arthur to Assistant Butler Manager and the appointment of Stacia Brathwaite to the post of Public Relations Coordinator.

This is in keeping with Sandals Resorts International’s (SRI) commitment to attracting local talent as well as the upward mobility and development of team members.

Arthur, who has been with the company since 2015, began her journey at Sandals Barbados as a Front Desk Agent. With the opening of Sandals Royal Barbados, she saw an opportunity for further growth within the organization and was quick to apply for the post of Butler Coordinator.

She explained, “I always saw Sandals in advertisements and the company appeared to focus on service, which is what I am all about. Therefore, from the time I heard about the Sandals development in Barbados I immediately wanted to be a part of the company.

“Transitioning from the Front Desk to the Butler Department was new to me and I just submerged myself in the job. From there I was promoted to Butler Supervisor and I continued to push. I wanted to learn, to grow; and now here I am - Assistant Butler Manager.”

Arthur admits that her drive to ascend in the company came largely due to the encouragement of fellow team members and the opportunities the company offers for cross-training in various departments and internal promotion.

Brathwaite, a trained journalist, having spent over seven years with Starcom Network Inc., also has two years of experience working with several businesses across the island in the role of Media/PR Consultant.

Joining Sandals Barbados is not her first stint in the hospitality sector, having served as a Guest Service Agent attached to the Sales Department, then the local PR Coordinator with one of the island’s oldest resorts. In addition, she has several years of training in Customer Service, having previously been attached to ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 Inc., and Cable & Wireless (Barbados) Ltd.

On her appointment Brathwaite said she was thrilled to be a part of the Sandals family and added, “I was first introduced to the group as a journalist when Sandals International Resorts purchased the then Couples Resort.

“Having visited a few of the properties across the Caribbean as a journalist, as well as following the development of Sandals Barbados on the island, I was impressed not only with the products and level of service offered to the guests, but also with the opportunities available to the staff. I am pleased to join the Sandals team and I look forward to being an integral part of the SRI’s further growth in Barbados.”

Speaking about Arthur’s promotion, General Manager Ramel Sobrino said, “Melanie is one of the young professionals here on the resort who is dedicated to ensuring that guests and team members have an exceptional experience with Sandals. Her commitment to service excellence is one of her many attributes and I look forward to her continued growth within the company.”

In welcoming Brathwaite to the team he said, “Sandals is always in search of new talent. Stacia brings with her a love for the industry and a passion for excellence. We look forward to working with her and we are sure that she will have an exciting journey with the company.”
