Over $19,000 in drugs seized at Bridgetown Port

Two people appeared in the District A Magistrate Court charged in connection with a number of drug related offences, after a package was searched at the Bridgetown Port.  

They are 37-year-old Rogich Augutus Edghill and 29-year-old Tanisha Natasha Haynes-Norville of 2nd and 3rd Avenue Grazettes, St. Michael, respectively. 

Both were jointly charged with trafficking and conspiracy to traffic cannabis, while Edghill was charged with acts preparatory for the purpose of trafficking cannabis and Haynes-Norville was charged with importation of cannabis.   

The drugs were discovered on May 23 at the Bridgetown Port after one Schumacher battery, shipped from Trinidad, was scanned and examined by Customs. The battery charger was found to contain eight carbon-wrapped packages each with vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis. The drugs weighed 4.9kilos with an estimated street value of $19,600 BDS.  

They both appeared in the District A Magistrate Court before Douglas Frederick and were both granted bail in the sum of $15,000 with on surety each. They are scheduled to reappear in court on Monday October 14.
