PHOTOS: Christmas cheer project is a hit with the kiddies!
The smiles of children are just one reason for the season and the United Generations Optimist Club (UGOC) contributed to the happiness of a group of children from the Eagle Hall Primary School, the Vauxhall Primary School and the Deacons Primary School last Saturday in a fun and educational manner.
Formed just two years ago as an affiliate of Optimist International, the club’s mission is to provide hope and vision through various activities and projects, in an effort to bring out the best in their members, the youth and the community.
United Generations Optimist Club Christmas Cheer Project
After last year’s project, which saw three families being the recipients of Christmas hampers. Newly-elected President of UGOC, Thandeka Ferguson and her team wanted to make a greater impact in terms of quality and quantity.
According to Ferguson the “Christmas cheer” project was produced with the objective to educate, inform and entertain in the form of a bus excursion and picnic, which included gift presentations by Santa Claus and his elves.
“We wanted the children to see places of interest while having fun. We also wanted to relieve their minds of their daily lifestyle and provide them with an Optimistic Day of Fun”, said Ferguson.
The trip took the children and their parents/guardians to the Nature Fun Ranch, Cherry Tree Hill, the St John Parish Church, Morgan Lewis Windmill, the Scotland District and climaxed with a picnic at the Three Houses Park.
Ferguson said she was pleased with the event and thanked her team and sponsors for making the day an enjoyable one for the children.
“Today was extraordinary; the children were mannerly, polite and enjoyed themselves. Even the parents who accompanied the children expressed great satisfaction with the day.
This day was made possible, thanks to sponsors KFC, Wibisco, A&A Wholesale, Jordans Supermarket, friends and family of the club members”.
