Paul Schmidt of Germany is the 2017 Run Barbados Marathon winner.

He left the field to finish in a time of 2:36:13 at Bay Street this morning, followed by France's Jean Habarurema, whose time was 3:18:03. The third man in was 56-year-old Barbadian Andrew Brathwaite, who finished in a time of 3:18:03.

Andrew Brathwaite was the first Barbadian male to finish the Run Barbados Marathon and the third male overall.

It was the first time in Barbados for Schmidt and he was enjoying himself on the island: "I've been here two weeks and it's a natural paradise". Speaking about the atmosphere on the day, he noted that he was happy to experience "people cheering and seeing the support along the way - I really liked that". Habarurema similarly enjoyed that encouragement and thanked "all of you for supporting me... encouraging me". Meanwhile, Brathwaite was happy with his third place and explained that he "wanted to try to do a better time, but the last half was the problem," as his legs tightened going back up the incline.

Felix Fanja of Martinique was the first woman to finish the Run Barbados Marathon.
