PHOTOS: UWI's Global Giving Week launch

The University of the West Indies recently launched its inaugural 'Global Giving Week'- an annual event designed to raise resources and drive regional development.

Under the theme "Emancipate. Educate. Donate" , the designated week will run from July 31- August 6; significantly encompasses Emancipation Day celebrated across the Caribbean each year. Donations poured in from Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB); former Jamaican Prime Minister, The Most Hon. P. J. Patterson; Barbados graduates of the University College of the West Indies; West Indies Cricket Board President, Dave Cameron and 10-year old Alex Sharp- son of President and CEO of Scotiabank Jamaica Limited, Jacquelin Sharp.

The Global Giving Week programme is endorsed by global patron, UWI Chancellor, Sir George Alleyne and other regional patrons including: His Excellency Dr. Sir Rodney Willliams, Govenor- General of Antigua; Her Excellency Dame Ivy Dumont, former Governor- General of The Bahamas; the Rt. Hon. Owen Arthur, former Prime Minister of Barbados; His Excellency Sir Colville Young, Govenor- General of Belize; the Most Hon P. J. Patterson, former Prime Minister of Jamaica; Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, Governor- General of St. Lucia; and His Excellency Anthony Carmona, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
