PM Mottley to hand over CARICOM reins on Friday

CARICOM Heads of Government will host a conference on Friday (July 3) where Prime Minister Mia Mottley will hand over the reins to her successor.

On Friday, Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves will take over as CARICOM Chair.

The twentieth special sitting of CARICOM will be held via video conference, it's scheduled to begin at 10 am.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused the 41st Regular Meeting of Heads of Government to be pushed to September 2-3 in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

On Friday the regional leaders are expected to discuss several procedural matters.

During her tenure as CARICOM Chair, PM Mottley hosted the 31st Intersessional Conference and held a number of meetings to map out a strategy to deal with the COVID-19 crisis.

She also facilitated a meeting between CARICOM Heads of Government and representatives from leading cruise lines to discuss matters of mutual interest.

The relationship fostered during this meeting allowed the Community to openly share concerns about the impact of COVID-19 on the cruise industry in the Caribbean.
