Prime Minister Mia Mottley has yet to reveal the full details of the recovery plan for the country’s economy as government finalizes the loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Mottley is expected to update the country on the next phases of the Barbados Economic Recovery Plan which she said includes the “Re Re program”- a program of retooling and empowering Barbadians.
The PM did not delve too deeply into the specifics of the Re Re program as she delivered the feature address to participants of the Sandals Global Sales Conference held at the Sandals Royals on Friday.
She simply said the Re Re program will take the Barbados economy where it needs to be.
“It is about retooling and empowering. It’s about retraining and enfranchising. It’s about being able to cause our people to live the best life they can.”
With the prospect of job cuts looming over the heads of some public sector workers, Mottley said while change is often uncomfortable, it is necessary.
She said the “route to excellence” is to reprogram and gave the assurance that government will put cushioning measures in place to ensure whatever changes are made will lead to success.
“What helps us manage change is retooling. What helps us succeed and overcome the changes we have to make is to retrain.”
