Police investigate drowning at Pierhead Beach

One week after a teenage girl got into difficulties at the Pierhead Beach and subsequently died, police are reporting a similar incident- this time involving a 21-year-old male.  

The deceased has been identified as Leondre Francis of Suriname Road, Horse Hill, St. Joseph.  

According to police reports, Francis was in the company of a friend at the Bay Street, St. Michael beach when he got into difficulty around 4:00 pm on Thursday May, 23.  

Lifeguards performed CPR at the scene and he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) by ambulance. He was later pronounced dead after efforts to revive him failed. 

Police are asking anyone who may have information related to this incident to contact Central Station at 430-7676, Police Emergency 211, Crime Stoppers 1800-8477(TIPS) or any Police Station.
