Mahabir’s recently opened pop-up restaurant and rum bar at Spitalfields Market, Limin’, promises visitors a fully immersive food and drink experience.

The restaurant’s food menu reflects Trinidad and Tobago’s unique culture and cuisine, featuring Indian, Creole and Chinese dishes.

Speaking with online food magazine Catering Today, Mahabir, who moved to London 20 years ago, said he decided to open his own restaurant as he was disappointed by the quality of Caribbean food being offered there.

“London has a thriving street food but Caribbean food tends to be represented by Jamaica. I wanted to educate the capital on food from my country because there’s so much more to the island than meets the eye. People can come and have something to eat, buy a bottle of rum and sit and enjoy it with friends,” he told Catering Today.

Prices range from three pounds – Spicy Penal Mix (peanuts, yellow dhal and chick peas, scotch bonnet chillies, coriander and garlic) to nine pounds – Pepper prawns (aka pepper shrimp).

The cocktail menu features nine different selections, with a separate menu for those interested in rum.

Limin’, which opened four weeks ago, will only be around for a short while as it will operate as a pop-up until its scheduled close on New Years’ Eve.

Mahabir hasn’t yet let on what he has in store for Limin’ in 2019.
