Popular deodorant lands man in jail
For stealing a pack of deodorant, a repeat offender will spend the next 12 months at Her Majesty's Prison Dodds.
This was the sentence handed down to Andrew Sylvester Moore, 42, on Monday after he appeared in the District "A" Magistrates' Court.
Moore, who is homeless, admitted stealing the $13.95-item from Popular Discounts.
On December 2, Moore went into the store on Spry Street, The City where he reportedly took the deodorant and placed it in his pocket. A shopper, who witnessed this, alerted the security guard who came, searched him and found the property.
He was later arrested and charged.
The court heard that Moore was recently released from prison. He was sentenced to 12 months in February for stealing vitamins from JENN Health and Beauty Supplies.
He pleaded with the court to impose a fine on him rather than send him back to prison.
"I want a fine, please I will pay for it. I ain't want to go to prison please," Moore pleaded.
Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant said Moore had quite a history of Theft before sentencing him to 12 months in prison.
