Porey Spring still winless
With the Barbados Defense Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) dropping two points earlier in the evening, in a 0-0 draw with lowly placed Home Improvement Hardware Compton, the University of the West Indies (UWI) took full advantage to close the gap on the Barbados Football Association (BFA) Zone 2 leaders.
Playing at the BFA Wildey Astroturf last Sunday evening in the feature game, UWI exhibited a high standard of play on their way to a 3-0 victory over Mark’s Auto Spares Porey Spring.
The University of the West Indies made their intentions clear early on as captain Mario Harte handed his team the lead in the 9th minute.
A cross from left fullback Alvin Chapman picked out Harte at the far post to head home from inside the six-yard box.
The lead would last until the break, after Porey Spring settled and secured their goal with more determination and organization.
The Blackbirds doubled their lead in the 61st minute as former Porey Spring attacker Jamario Worrell scored his fourth goal of the season.
Harte completed the scorecard in immaculate fashion in the 75th minute.
A long throw on the left side found Harte inside the opposing penalty area and closely monitored by two Porey Spring defenders. The currently suspended national forward, showcased skill and composure to lob one of his markers and ferociously volley the ball into the top left-hand corner, giving goalkeeper Ryan Hope no chance.
Porey Spring fell to their sixth defeat and are yet to secure a victory for the season.
