Probation for woman caught abusing children at nursery school
A daycare worker whose conduct did not reflect the name of the nursery has been placed on probation for one year after undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
Kathyann Nicole Severin, a 27-year-old former employee of Safe and Sound Day Care, pleaded guilty to assaulting two babies who attended the centre. The charges against the Kirtons, St Philip resident stem from an incident that occurred on November 14, 2016.
The children were said to be six and 12 months old at the time of the offence.
The owner had received previous complaints about abuse of the children, which were confirmed when she, anxious to protect the children in her care, installed a surveillance system to ensure they were aware of events occurring.
As a result, the cameras caught Severin committing a number of unsavoury acts. She was seen slapping, force-feeding and even holding one of the children upside down by one foot as she walked to another room.
Severin returns to court on October 31. The matter was presided over by Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.
Severin must also undergo counselling.
