RBPF warns businesses of coronavirus scam

Local businesses and organizations are asked to be on high alert for a possible telephone scam related to the COVID-19 virus.

The Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) has been informed of several reports from various businesses stating that they have received calls and messages from individuals purporting to be officials from the Ministry of Health and authorised by the Minister of Health.

They calls and messages are an attempt to collect monetary donations for the assistance of persons affected by the COVID-19 virus in Barbados.

The RBPF is advising persons who are confronted with such request to first verify the authenticity of such individuals by seeking their names, formal identification and contact details. They should also check that information is correct before doing business with such individuals.

The Force warns that persons trying to receive monetary gain by deceptive means will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
