Ready, set, go for Agrofest 2019
Agrofest 2019 is poised to be bigger and better and organizers will soon be releasing tickets to the box
With the usual focus on agriculture and the development of the sector, the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) says they are not making many changes this year, except for some of the layout of some stalls and exhibits.
In spite of this, they expect the same bumper-to-bumper crowd that the annual event has grown accustomed to over the years, when people flock to Queens Park from Friday, February 22 to Sunday, February 24.
Chief Executive Officer of BAS James Paul, said that they are excited with this year’s theme since it fits nicely into any demographic participating or attending the weekend of activities.
'Full We Pocket Eat Local' is a title which he believes draws in the youth with the catchiness of the phrase but also speaks to those who have been in the sector for years.
“Once our pockets are filled with ideas, talents, and opportunities we can and will be able to eat, and what better way than to eat local,” he said.
He added that they will continue to appeal to young people to get involved in agriculture since there are great opportunities for them and they will still lean on those who have been around for years to share their expertise and experience to the youth who have modern ideas, are vigorous and energetic.
This year he says may be a bit more challenging since sponsorship has for years become harder and “even now in the economic climate we understand that it is tough, but we still want you to do what you can and come on board. We always thank the sponsors who never take their names off the books but continue to give what they can,” the CEO stressed.
