Repeat offender gets jail time for two chocolates
Two days after being released from prison, a 58-year-old man stole two chocolates and landed himself back in jail two days later.
This time he will spend 12 months at the St Philip institution.
This was the sentence handed down to Anthony St Clair Hunte of Headley's Land, Bank Hall, St Michael when he appeared in the District “A” Magistrates' Court yesterday, December 4, 2017.
Hunte, who admitted to stealing the $5.00 sweets on Friday, said he was hungry and “wanted something to eat”.
Known for numerous Theft offences, it was reported that Hunte went into the store on Swan Street and removed the items from the shelves. He was approached by a security guard who searched his person and found the chocolates.
Hunte told the court he has a drug problem and wanted to go to Verdun house, however, Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant imposed the prison sentence.
