Republic Bank condemns Kadooment Day violence
Republic Bank, title sponsor of Grand Kadooment, expresses regret and concern over the senseless acts of violence which marred the culmination of an otherwise extremely successful Crop Over season.
Managing Director & C.E.O of Republic Bank, Ian De Souza stated,
“We at Republic Bank, like all right-minded citizens of Barbados, strongly condemn the violent and lawless actions of a small criminal element which have caused death and injury during what is meant to be our most important national festival."
"Apart from the suffering inflicted, I am also worried about the knock-on effect that this may have on the popularity of Republic Bank Grand Kadooment - amongst both locals and foreign visitors - and the potential for a negative economic impact on our tourism based economy.”
De Souza went on to state, “Hence, I am calling on all authorities to deploy the necessary resources and every civic minded citizen to assist where they can to stem the recent tide of gun violence that has gripped the country. The thoughts and prayers of Republic Bank’s management and staff are with the victims, their families and the wider community at this time as we are all affected by these unjust acts.”
Republic Bank emphasised that it supports any national effort to prevent this type of violence from becoming the norm.
