The Salvation Army recently honoured husband and wife duo, Envoy Wilma and John Coulthrust, at a special ceremony marking their retirement.

"During their tenure at the Long Bay Corp, the Envoys have been exemplary leaders - being humble, loving, spirit-filled and leading by example."

Those were the words of admiration and appreciation for Envoy Wilma and John Coulthrust, as the Salvation Army recently celebrated the husband and wife at a special service marking their retirement, entitled 'Celebrating 12 years of Service'.

Leaders across the army joined with the congregation, as well as those whose lives have been touched by the couple, to celebrate them at the Bridgetown Central Corp, Reed Street.

Their daughter, Gena Coulthrust was among those who paid tribute to the retired Commanding Officers - pastors - of the Long Bay Salvation Army Corps in St Philip.

Before presenting them with a crystal plaque, she gave the audience a peek into her parents' past, highlighting some of the experiences that made them the dedicated persons they are today.

She revealed: "They proved that in spite of the many challenges they would have faced, including both working full times jobs during the day and attending to the Corps business after work - and sometimes even during - that all things are possible by Faith."

Commending their diligence in serving God, she encouraged them to continue to employ this dedication in the next stage of their lives:

"Envoy John and Wilma Coulthrust have both faithfully served the Long Bay Corp for the past 12 years with unwavering dedication and Love, sharing a common goal of advancing the gospel in the Corp and the neighbouring community. They have often been found fervently praying for the members of the Long Bay Corp more than themselves - just a testament of the love they hold in their hearts for the members...

"I pray that as you enter this new chapter, that you will find new and exciting aspects of God’s vast kingdom to contribute your talents, passion and more importantly love for God."
