T&T Security guard jailed for hitting wife over uncooked meal

A security officer in Trinidad will spend the next 12 months in jail after he pleaded guilty to allegations of assaulting his wife – who happens to be a Guyanese national.

Sheldon Thomas, 49, admitted to the court that he slapped his wife over an uncooked meal.

And while Thomas apologised for his actions, he was sentenced by Magistrate Alicia Chankar who, during the hearing, told him that “once is too much”.

Thomas appeared before Chankar for assaulting 36-year-old Hollice Thomas.

It was alleged that the incident took place on Sunday evening,  March 17, at the couple’s Diamond Village home in Trinidad.

The two had an argument over an uncooked meal and a bag which contained Hollice’s personal belongings.

During that argument, he hit Hollice in such a manner that she ended up with injuries.

A report was made to the police and PC Mungal conducted inquiries, which led to Thomas being arrested.

The State was represented by police prosecutor Cleyon Seedan.

During the hearing, Hollice told the court of several other alleged incidents where her husband ‘acted out’ including once where he allegedly chased their three-year-old son with a Chinese chopper.

After further submissions, Thomas was sentenced.

More on this as it becomes available.
