Simmons to replace Munro for first three games of Knight Riders season
The Trinbago Knight Riders have announced that Lendl Simmons will replace Colin Munro for their first three games of the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season.
Munro is unavailable due to international commitments with New Zealand. Simmons will stand in for him for the matches at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots on September 4, Jamaica Tallawahs on September 6 and St Lucia Zouks on September 8.
Simmons will now have played for five CPL franchises having appeared for Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Lucia Zouks, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Jamaica Tallawahs. This will be the first time that Trinidadian Simmons has appeared for his home franchise.
Simmons has played 59 CPL matches having scored 1650 runs, the third most by any batsman in the tournament’s history. Simmons has played eight Tests, 68 ODIs and 45 T20 International matches for the West Indies and has appeared in 219 T20 matches in total.
First started in 2013, the Hero CPL is a franchise-based T20 format cricket tournament that combines two of the most compelling aspects of Caribbean life – dramatic cricket and a vibrant Carnival atmosphere.
Combining broadcast and digital viewership over 200 million fans watched the 2018 season to make it one of the fastest growing leagues in world cricket.
Trinbago Knight Riders are the current Hero CPL champions and the other competing teams are Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, St. Lucia Zouks and Jamaica Tallawahs.
The 2019 tournament will take place between September 4 and October 12.
