Six Barbadians in Tourism get half their tuition paid by BHTA/Expedia

Six members of the Tourism industry in Barbados are on their way to expanding and improving their personal development through scholarships from the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) and Expedia.

Ultimately the scholarship awardees are to use the knowledge acquired to not only benefit themselves as industry players, but they are also expected to apply the expertise to advance Destination Barbados in the long-run.


Receiving the awards at Hilton (Barbados) today, Wednesday, October 23, 2019, for the BHTA/Expedia e-Cornell University Scholarships were:

For Hotel Revenue Management

  2. Melissa Defreitas
  3. Kyle Callender
  4. Tanya Broomes
  5. Sheena Goodridge

For Digital Marketing

  1. Krystal Griffith

Loop chatted with two awardees Natalie of Dover Beach Hotel and Kyle of Infinity on the Beach who were grateful and happy to achieve the scholarships. Kyle confessed that he only decided to submit his application on the very last day.

The scholarship provides 50 percent of the tuition fees for the online courses. Natalie said that the other 50 per cent is being split equally between her employer and herself, meanwhile for Kyle his employer is paying the full balance uncovered by the scholarship.

According to Kyle, the scholarship winners have up to three months before they must commence their studies.
