Health issues have taken veteran calypsonian Smokey Burke out of the 2018 Pic-o-de Crop Finals competition.

This was confirmed by the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) this evening in an official statement.

The NCF stated:

"The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) has officially advised that Colin Spencer will replace Smokey Burke tomorrow night at the Courtesy/Mount Gay Pic-O-De-Crop Final at Kensington Oval.  Smokey is unable to perform due to illness."

Spencer was the reserve.

NCF added that "Smokey, a veteran Calypsonian, has been performing in the Pic-O-De-Crop for many years and is not only a part of the Calypso fraternity, but also of the wider cultural community.  He has many friends within the NCF walls and within the community and the NCF joins with the country in praying for his speedy recovery."
