South Coast water mains shut down for 4 hours

The Barbados Water Authority (BWA), as part of its efforts to address the challenges on the South coast sewage network, will shut down the potable water mains along Highway 7 from midnight.

The mains from Jemmott’s Lane, St. Michael, to Upper Carters, Christ Church from 12:00 am to 4:00 am Wednesday, January 10.

This step is to facilitate a further CCTV inspection of the sewer network which is separate and distinct from the potable water network.

However, as the use of potable water leads to the creation of wastewater in the sewer network, the BWA is asking residential and commercial customers and those with domestic and commercial tanks to assist with this exercise by restricting their use of water during the time of the shutdown.

Ideally, the sewer lines need to be empty in order to accommodate the inspection.
