St Alban's Primary closed, counselling continues after deadly shooting

The ministerial decision to close St Alban's Primary was extended to today, in the wake of the bold morning shooting attack outside the school's gate yesterday, which claimed the life of a student's father.

The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training has issued a release to inform teachers, parents and guardians that the school, located in Weston, St James, will be closed today, Friday, January 17. 

According to the Ministry the closure is to allow for the counselling of staff and students who would have been impacted by a tragic loss of a parent that occurred near the school yesterday. The Ministry is facilitating the sessions.

Counsellors will be at the school from 9 am to 3 pm  tomorrow for any member of staff, student, parent or guardian requiring counselling. In addition to this effort, the Education Ministry has set up a hotline for any staff member whether teaching or non-teaching, and any student, parent or guardian who wishes to seek further assistance. The hotline number is 535-0853.
