UPDATE: St. Philip community disturbed by gunshot, man rushed to QEH

[Update: 6:33 pm, Thursday, January 24, 2019]

Police have named the gunshot victim.

He is Damien Hunte, current address unknown. Hunte was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by private motor car after receiving a gunshot wound to his back this morning after 9:00 am.

Police investigations are continuing.

One man was shot in Gemswick, St. Philip today.

The male who received a gunshot injury was not in a condition to speak after the afternoon shooting incident, according to reports.

He was taken for medical attention.

One resident who spoke to Loop News said her father rushed in their Gemswick home in a panic after hearing the news of a shooting nearby.

Another man in the area said he heard a one shot.

Other reports reaching Loop are that the man was shot in his back, however, this has not been confirmed by police as yet.

Loop is awaiting further details from the Royal Barbados Police Force. Police spokesperson Sargeant Michael Blackman confirmed the incident and location.

Gemswick is also known as 'Penny Hole' by many, especially in the East. The incident occurred today, Thursday, January 24, 2019.

Homicides in Barbados for 2019 stand at eight currently. The most recent occurred last night when less than an hour after being shot while he sat at the wheel in his truck in slight traffic in Baxter's Road, a man passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, succumbing to his multiple gunshot wounds.
