Sugar Boyz too sweet for Tridents
The Barbados men’s Olympic football team's preparations for their upcoming 2020 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifier encounter versus Haiti in Port-au-Prince, took a telling blow last night at the Barbados Football Association (BFA) Wildey Turf.
The young Tridents with five senior national players in their starting line-up fell 3-0 to the “Sugar Boyz” of St Kitts & Nevis.
The Tridents will face Haiti this weekend with a place into the final qualifying round at stake and it was not the type of performance that coach Russel Latapy would be pleased about after contrasting displays and results against Cuba and the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) in the first round of qualifiers.
Coach Latapy was forced to field an inexperienced backline due to the unavailability of a number of his senior defenders.
Their quality or lack thereof was witnessed in the 8th minute when Gvaune Amory easily glided by Renaldo Trim and crossed the ball into the box for Tyquan Terrel to finish from close range.
Terrel doubled the Kittians lead in the 37th minute, after dribbling Trim on the edge of the area and fired a shot into the right-hand corner, brushing the fingertips of goalkeeper Liam Brathwaite in the process.
Terrel completed his demolition of the Bajan defence in the 60th minute with a curling left-footed effort which was too good for Brathwaite or any other goalkeeper.
