Teen charged after drugs found in bean cans

Shaqem Lashley is out on bail after appearing before Magistrate Cuffy-Sargeant on numerous drug charges yesterday.

Members of the Drug Squad arrested and charged Shaqem Najeen Kadeem Ben Lashley, 19 years of Welches Lot #2, Gibson Land, Redman’s Village, St. Thomas, for a number of drug related offences.

These offences were committed on Thursday, August 10, 2017, whilst at Terminal 2, Grantley Adams International Airport, Seawell, Christ Church.

Lashley was arrested and charged for:

Possession of Cannabis

Trafficking of Cannabis

Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Supply

Importation of cannabis 

According to the police report, Lashley made arrangements with another person to have the cannabis concealed in a barrel of foodstuff imported into Barbados. During an inspection of the barrels by Custom Enforcement, the cannabis was discovered concealed in 24 cans labelled beans. The police was informed and Lashley was subsequently arrested and charged by the police for the offences.

Lashley appeared before Magistrate Cuffy-Sargeant in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court on Friday, August 11.  He was granted bail in the sum of $22 000 with one surety to reappear in the District ‘B’ Court on the August 17, 2017. As part of the conditions of his bail he is to report to District ‘A’ every Monday and Wednesday.
