Teens plead guilty to snatching woman's bag near bus terminal

Two teenagers, who admitted robbing a woman in the Fairchild Street Terminal, were remanded to HMP Dodds today.

Seventeen-year-old Chad Adrian Mayers of no fixed place address and 19-year-old Tafari Steffon O'Brian Barker of Wellington Street, St Michael appeared in the District "A" Magistrates' Court where they pleaded guilty to the charge. 

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant remanded the duo until November 5 when they will be sentenced.

According to the facts read by Prosecutor Sergeant Edwin Pinder, the complainant left her workplace at KM2 Solutions in Harbour Road, Industrial Estate, St. Michael and walked to the terminal. When she realised that she missed her bus, she began to walk to the Constitution River Terminal to catch a van. While on her way, she saw the teenagers walking towards her. 

One of the teenagers got close to her and started to grab her bag from her shoulder but she fought back.

However, the strap popped and the teens ran with the bag in hand. The complainant ran behind and saw them place the bag on the sidewalk in front Starcom Network and searched through it. They took a Samsung Galaxy tablet, an umbrella, bank cards along with other items. The stolen items were worth $964 before escaping.
