Ten injured in mass casualty incident

Two drivers and eight passengers were injured in a road accident which occurred around 1:10 am on Dodds Road, Dodds, St. Philip.

Preliminary investigations reveal both vehicles were travelling along the mentioned road in opposite directions when they collided.

One vehicle, a van, driven by Kenneth Ashby 48, of Water Street, Christ Church, collided with a car driven by Keisha Fox, 29, who is an American visitor staying at Eagle Hall, St. Michael. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

Each vehicle was carrying four passengers. 

All 10 persons complained of various injuries as a result of the collision. Seven were transferred to the QEH, of which two were classified as serious.

One had suspected fractures to the extremities while the other complained of neck and chest pains. The other five passengers suffered minor injuries.

Three persons were treated and discharged at the scene. 

The emergency response included five doctors, one nurse, one paramedic and an ambulance officer from the QEH. Five ambulances also went to the scene - four from the Ambulance Service and one from the Barbados Defence Force. 

Also two fire tenders with eight personnel along with three personnel from Barbados Defence Force, one driver and two privates, responded.
