Theft accused caught wearing stolen chain; damages a home

Two nine-month concurrent sentences were imposed on Mzee Osei Kazi Natambubu Moore today.
This came after the 34-year-old man of Lodge Road, Warrens, St Michael pleaded guilty to a theft and criminal damage charge.
It was on August 31, 2018, that Moore damaged a door belonging to Patrick Todd and on February 9, 2019, he stole a chain from Shamar Blackman.
The prosecution said that Moore and Blackman were once friends but the friendship ended because of Moore's drug abuse.
On the date of the theft offence Blackman was walking along Swan Street, The City when he heard someone call his name. He turned around and saw that it was Moore who proceeded to ask him for money.
Blackman said he didn't have any money and dismissed Moore.
Moore snatched the chain and ran.
The matter was reported to police Moore was caught in Beckwith Street wearing the chain.
In the criminal damage case, Todd said a noise, which came from the front of his house, alerted him. Glass from the damaged door was then noticed inside and outside the house. Inquires led to Moore.
The matter was heard on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in District 'A' Magistrate Court.
