Three new knights among Independence Day Honourees

The Awards of National Honours for Independence Day 2017 have been announced and Barbados now has three new knights.

The three persons awarded the Knight of St. Andrew, for extraordinary and outstanding achievement in service of Barbados and to humanity at large are:

1. Hon. Anthony Theophilus Bryan CHB, GCM. J.P.

For his outstanding contribution to publishing, broadcasting and business, including International Business in the area of publishing and broadcasting, presenting a positive, balanced credible view of Barbados.

2. Warwick Orlando Franklin, GCM, J.P.  

For his contribution to the land surveying profession and to the land and property valuation profession.

3. Charles Christopher Griffith, SCM

In recognition of his contribution in the area of sport, with special reference to cricket, entrepreneurship, leadership and business development.

 

The awards of the Companion of Honour, for distinguished national achievement and merit:

1. Avril Eulalie Moseley Gollop, GCM, BJH, MVO, J.P.

For her contribution to the Public Service.

2. Rashid Orlando Marville, CBE

For his contribution to the Public Service.

3. Harold Keith Melville, BCH

For his contribution to the field of Optometry.

 

The awards of the Gold Crown of Merit, for highly meritorious service or achievement in science, the arts, literature, sports, civic duties or any other endeavour worthy of national recognition:

1. Sonja Pedra Joan Welch, BA (Hons), LL.B (Hons)

For her contribution to the Public Service.

2. Joseph Evan Goddard, MSc., J.P.

For his contribution to the labour movement.

4. Stephen Albert Lashley, BSc., LL.B

For his contribution to Culture, Sports and Youth and the planning and execution of CARIFESTA 2017.

 

The awards of the Silver Crown of Merit, for meritorious service or achievement in science, the arts, literature, sports, civic duties or any other endeavor worthy of national recognition:

 

1. John Edward Hutson, MB, CHB, DA, MFARCS

For his contribution to medicine and service to the Barbadian community in Edmonton and Alberta, Canada.

2. David John Roett

For his contribution to music and culture.

3. John Anthony Watson

For his contribution to the development of small business and service to the community.

4. Dr. Victor Stanley Blanchette, FRCP, FRCP(c)

For his contribution to the pediatric medicine and Global Child Health. (He is the Medical Director at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada).

 

Honorary Awards (Silver Crown of Merit)

1. Christopher Anthony Holder

For his philanthropic contribution and charitable services to the people of Barbados.

2. Regine Sixt

For her outstanding and dedicated service as Barbados’ Honorary Consul General in Germany.

 

 

The Barbados Service Star, for meritorious work in the civil, fire, military, police, prison or other protective services or any other similar field of endeavor:

1. Ruth Eugene Blackman, MPA, BSc.

For her contribution to Culture, Sports and Youth and CARIFESTA 2017.

2. Gabrielle Anthea Springer, MSc, BSc. (Hons)

For her contribution to the Public Service and Barbados’ 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebrations.

3. Leroy Evelyn Gibbs, MSc., BSc., RMN, J.P.

For his contribution to mental health nursing and service to the community.

4. Alston Henrique Williams, J.P.

For his contribution to community service particularly in the area of sports.

5. Veronica Patricia Griffith

For her contribution to the labour movement.

 

The Barbados Service Medal, for meritorious work in the civil, fire, military, police, prison or other protective services or any other similar field of endeavor:

1. Cheryl Marquita Forde, MEd.

For her contribution to special education.

2. Cobin McColin Hinds, BA, Dip Th., Erd. Cert.

For his contribution to teaching and the Barbados and Caribbean Teachers’ Unions.

3. James Edward Gittens

For his contribution to the Church and Community Life.

4. Ryvan Ainsley Humphrey, J.P.

For his contribution to community service and the construction industry.

5. Grace Wilma Clement

For her contribution to the labour movement and community service.

 

The Barbados Bravery Medal, for acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances:

1. Dré Shakur Browne

For saving the life of a visitor to Barbados, who required resuscitation following a near drowning experience.
