TOTW - Five teams in this week's formation

This week's formation.

This week's formation.

After an inconsistent performance last season, which saw them narrowly escape the relegation playoffs, Empire SC has been in stellar form in the new Barbados Football Association (BFA) 2018-19 Premier League.

With seven goals for and none conceded, the Bank Hall boys have secured top spot in Zone 2 after registering two consecutive wins, with the latest one being a controlled 2-0 result against Youth Milan.

The Barbados Defense Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) and Crane & Equipment Ellerton shared the points in a 3-3 draw and Scotty’s Car Rentals St Andrew Lions fell to their second successive defeat as they went down 3-1 to Paradise FC.

Members of five of the six teams in action make up a very diverse Team of the Week.

Formation: 1-4-3-3

Coach: Dean Alleyne (Empire)

Goalkeeper: Paul Doughty (Paradise) - the reserve goalkeeper made a worthy argument for the number one spot with some outstanding saves which kept his team in the game and eventually earned them an important victory.

Right Back: Rashad Smith (BDFSP) - the roving wingback saved his team from embarrassment when he equalized with the last kick of the game after his team made a mess of a two-goal lead.

Right Center Back: Shane Codrington (BDFSP) - despite conceding three goals against his “home”
team, it may have been more for it not for some timely challenges and intelligent positioning by the national defender.

Left Center Back: Omar Primus (Empire) - a mature performance but the usually temperamental centre-half.  He was confident, controlled and composed in his performance which assisted in his team registering their second consecutive clean sheet and victory as well.

Left Back: Ramon Manning (Paradise)- Manning revealed glimpses of his best, particularly offensively with some busy runs on the left, completed with teasing crosses which caused all types of problems for the Lions’ defence.

Right Center Midfield: Raheim Sargeant (BDFSP) - the diverse midfielder assisted his team’s first goal and was a constant livewire across the pitch.  His energy and collaboration with front men Rashad Jules and T’Shane Lorde were critical to his team’s early dominance.

Center Midfield: Rico Brathwaite (Empire) - no signs of nerves were shown by the Premiership debutant who was discipline, resolute and solid in the Empire midfield.

He made his presence felt with his aggression and simple but intelligent passes.

Left Center Midfield:  Jefferson (Lions) - two goals in two matches for the Brazilian midfielder, unfortunately finishing on the losing end for the second consecutive game.

Nevertheless, his performance was a standout one which included a great technical display of passing and receiving.

Right Forward: Shakille Belle (Ellerton) - the fleet-footed forward scored and assisted versus BDFSP and was the main weapon in Ellerton’s fight back.

Center Forward: Runako Thompson (Empire) - a fantastic strike (Goal of the Week) by the new acquisition sealed the victory for Empire over Youth Milan.

Left Forward: Rashad Jules (BDFSP) - two goals by the national captain gave BDFSP a solid foundation for success but his exit due to injury result in a collapse which was almost detrimental.
