Tropical Depression 11 moves closer to the Lesser Antilles

Tropical Depression 11 is over 2,000 kilometres away from the Lesser Antilles and is moving west at 15 mph (24 km/h).

The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) has forecast the system will continue on its present motion until tonight when it will turn towards the west-northwest.

Tropical Depression 11 has maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.

Gradual strengthening is forecast to occur during the next 48 hours, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today.

When that occurs, it will be named Josephine.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
