Tropical Storm Jerry strengthens

The Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a further update on Tropical Storm Jerry. 

As of 5 pm on Wednesday September 18, Jerry has strengthened to the east of the Leeward Islands.

Tropical Storm Jerry was located near 15.0N, 50.0W or about 617 miles, 993 km east northeast of Barbados. The system continues to move towards the west-northwest near 15 mph... 24 km/h.

The estimated minimum central pressure was 1000 MB...29.53 inches. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph, 95 km/h with higher gusts. Further strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days.

On its present track, Barbados is not expected to be directly impacted, as the system is forecasted to pass to the north of the northern Leeward Islands by Thursday night into early Friday.

However, residents in Barbados and the Lesser Antilles should continue to closely monitor the progress of this system. Further statements will be issued as conditions warrant.
