The maximum sustained winds of Tropical Storm (TS) Josephine has increased to around 45 mph (75 km/h).
The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) has forecast that TS Josephine will continue to see some change in strength throughout the day.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the storm’s centre.
At 5 am AST, the centre of TS Josephine was located about 310 miles (500 km) east of the northern Leeward Islands.
The storm is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue for the next day or two followed by a turn toward the northwest late this weekend or early next week.
The NHC said TS Josephine is expected to weaken as it encounters unfavourable upper-level winds.
TS Josephine is expected to cause storm-total rainfall of 1 to 3 inches over portions of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
Isolated minor flooding is possible in Puerto Rico on Monday.
