Loop Weather Update: Trough system affecting Barbados

A mid to upper-level trough system is affecting the island.

According to the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS), residents can expect a mix of clear skies and clouds with a few brief scattered light to moderate showers.

Additionally, the BMS has issued a small craft advisory from 6 pm Monday, October 26 to 6 pm on Tuesday, October 27 or sooner if conditions warrant.

There are reports significant swell height magnitudes, moderate to rough in open water with swells ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 meters ( eight to ten ft ) and increasing.

All marine craft operators and beachgoers should note the following possibilities along the eastern coast and near shore of this zone, due to the imminent or already occurring marine threat:

  • Large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels.
  • Operation of smaller vessels can be difficult at times due to large swells.
