Use of pepper spray illegal, warns police

The Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) has reminded the public that the use of pepper spray is an offence.

Under Section 2 of the Firearms Act it is illegal for one to have in their possession “any weapon of whatever description designed or adapted for the discharge of any explosive noxious liquid, gas, energy of any description or other thing”.

Following an incident that was caught on camera where well-known City vagrant ‘Ninja Man’ appears to have been pepper sprayed, the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society (BVHS) has called for the perpetrator to be prosecuted to the “full length of the law”.

Acting Public Relations Officer with the RBPF, Inspector Roland Cobbler said the RBPF has not yet received any formal report of the incident which is said to have occurred on Wednesday in Bridgetown.
