Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators and commuters are fed up and frustrated with the conditions at the Cheapside Van Stand in The City.

Operators are calling on government to treat the terminal with the same attention as was given to the Constitution River Terminal by outfitting it with the proper facilities for the comfort and safety of those who use it.

Members of the media were invited by the Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT) to tour the terminal today, December 11 and speak to the PSV operators about their concerns.

AOPT Public Relations Officer, Mark Haynes said the state of the terminal is a shame and it is time the authorities made the necessary improvements.

"This situation is untenable, it cannot continue. The drivers should be able to do their trade in an environment that is safe. No markings lends itself to disorder... and you have a chaotic situation. I know right now government's finances are a bit tight but they should make a commitment to get funding to fix this whole area. What obtains currently in the CRT [Constitution River Terminal] should obtain here because this is a designated bus terminal... I think it is important that down here [Cheapside] is treated similarly.

Some of the issues highlighted during the tour were the lack of toilet facilities, no clear lines for the six routes operating from the terminal as well as infrastructural concerns.
