Vincentian man deported 'for a woman'
A Vincentian man who said he shoplifted liquor and toothpaste "for a woman" was deported after it was revealed he had overstayed his welcome on the island.
Collis Theophilus Gould had been living in Barbados illegally since 2004 which came to light when the theft charge was brought against him in court on Saturday. .
Thirty-seven year old Gould, who resided in Barbarees Hill, St Michael, admitted entering BJ's Value Mart on July 13 and stealing the two items.
According to police, Gould went into the store walking around with a basket and was seen putting the items in a haversack. He, however, did not succeed in his attempt and was stopped.
Magistrate Ian Weekes handed Gould over to immigration officers.
"I did it for a woman," Gould said in his defence.
