October 28 has been an extra special day in Barbados, as it marked the birthday of yet another centenarian.

Mrs Lilian Priscilla Williams was the lady of honour today, as friends and family gathered at her Bibbys Lane, St Michael home to celebrate the special occasion.

And of course, Governor General Dame Sandra Mason was also there to commemorate yet another Barbadian joining the centenarian's club.

She led the group in singing Happy Birthday to Mrs William, as well as presented her with birthday cards and a bouquet.

Her daughters, elder Eileen Bryan and the younger Norma Sobers, as well as her granddaughter Juliette Sobers-Cummins and great-grandson Jacob Sobers-Cummins, lauded her work ethic. In fact, her two children stressed that it helped to teach them responsibility from a young age.

"She used to sell potatoes and things - she had her mule cart and she would get up and go at 5 o’clock in the mornings," Mrs Bryan noted.

A devoted Christian, members of both the St Matthew Anglican Church and the New Testament Church of God in Bibby’s Lane were also on hand to celebrate Mrs Williams turning 100.
