WATCH: Recycling Centre blaze not extinguished over 12 hours later

Firefighters have been battling a blaze at the Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre (SBRC) in St. Thomas for more than 18 hours now.


The Barbados Fire Service received the call at 2:55 pm yesterday, Tuesday, June 18, 2019, and tenders from across the island were dispatched. The response comprised the Chief Fire Officer, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, two Divisional Officers, three Station Officers and 19 fire officers, along with seven appliances - four from Bridgetown Fire Station, two from Arch Hall Station and one from Worthing Fire Station.

Up to 7:30 am, this, Wednesday, June 19, the blaze had not been extinguished as yet

The SBRC facility is located at Vaucluse in St. Thomas, and it is adjacent to the Mangrove sanitary landfill.

According to SBRC website, the facility is on a 35-acre site and it commenced operations on June 11, 2009.
