The past seven days have been ones of mixed emotions across Barbados.

There was much anticipation as persons looked forward to celebrating the island's 52nd year of Independence - something which was evident in the way tickets for the ‘We Barbados’ Independence Ceremonial Parade were snapped up.

While there was in fact a great display of Barbadian pride on Friday, many lives were touched by much tragedy and uncertainty during the week which would have left those persons unable to join in the festivities.
