West Terrace taps running slow after nearly 12 hours without water

Nine hours after their taps went dry, residents in West Terrace were livid at the lack of water and the absence of water tanks.

Now with the water trickling through the pipes almost a full 12 hours after they went off around 10:00 am this morning, the residents are trying to catch water for the night and maybe tomorrow, unsure of what the future holds and still having not laid eyes on even one water tank all day.

One resident under anonymity told Loop Community that she was even more peeved because for many in her neighbourhood the outage came without notice and was only posted to Instagram around 3:00 pm this afternoon.

However, the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) issued the below statement to media around 10:34 am:

"The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) wishes to inform the public that work started yesterday, Friday at the Ionics Freshwater Limited has not yet been completed today Saturday, June 29, 2019. As a result, the plant is still offline.

Adjustments have been made at the Belle Pumping Station to make up the deficit while the Desalination Plant is offline, however, low water pressure or outages may still be experienced in the following areas.

These affected districts may include:
St. Thomas -
Cane Garden, Arthur Seat, Welches Heights, Bagatelle Park, Bagatelle Gardens, Melrose, Redman’s Village, Edgehill, Welches Terrace, Padmore Village and the surrounding areas.
St. James -
Husbands, Oxnards, Prior Park, Apes Hill, Lower Mount Standfast, The Garden, Weston and surrounding districts.

Please note that in addition to the adjustments being made to supply the areas in the interim, the Authority has also dispatched water tankers to assist."
