Work on Desalination Plant resulting in water outages
Created : 30 June 2019
The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) wishes to bring the public up-to-date on the work carried out at the Ionics Freshwater Desalination Plant, which unfortunately resulted in the plant being offline.
Work conducted over the past two days is now complete and pumping has restarted. However, it will take some time for the system to return to normal.
The Authority is therefore advising customers currently suffering water outages, that they may continue to be impacted during today Sunday, June 30th.
Water tankers will continue to assist residents in the affected areas as a temporary measure. Please note that there may be delays due to heavy demand.
The districts affected may include:
In St. Thomas:
Cane Garden, Arthur Seat, Welches Heights, Bagatelle Park, Bagatelle Gardens, Melrose, Redman’s Village, Edgehill, Welches Terrace, Padmore Village and the surrounding areas.
In St. James:
Husbands, Oxnards, Holders Hill, Prior Park, Apes Hill, Lower Mount Standfast, The Garden, Weston and surrounding districts.
In St. Michael:
St. Stephen’s, Cave Hill, Wanstead and surrounding areas.
The Barbados Water Authority apologises for the inconvenience caused to its valued customers.
The BWA also reminds that this work is a critical component of upgrades being conducted to move water along the West Coast and into the centre of the island to assist the residents of some central districts recently plagued by consistent water outages.
