Shooting incidents reported in St. Michael and St. Andrew
Police are investigating two separate shooting incidents which occurred on Friday, August 23, 2019.
One incident occurred around 3:40 pm in the area of Beckles Avenue, New Orleans, St. Michael which resulted in 57-year-old Sharon Matthews, of the same address, receiving a gunshot injury to her right hand.
According to police, a report was made of shots being fired in the area. On arrival, Matthews told police while she was inside her residence she had been shot in her right hand by a man who had pointed a gun through her bedroom window and fired one shot into the room.
The victim was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance for medical attention.
The second shooting incident occurred around 10:30 pm, on the same date, in a bushy area at Walkers, St. Andrew near the St. Andrew’s Parish Church.
Deshawn Ricardo Clarke, a 25-year-old resident of Chimborazo, St. Joseph received multiple gunshot injuries about his body.
When police arrived on the scene in Walkers, Clarke was lying on the ground with what appeared to be four gunshot injuries to his body. Initial investigations revealed that the victim and another man were reportedly in the area when they encountered an unknown man who opened fire on them.
The victim was struck and fell to the ground and the other man ran off. The shooter then escaped the area and Clarke was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance for medical attention.
