Major drug seizure at Antigua and Barbuda airport

Police and Customs in Antigua and Barbuda seized over $302,000 worth of marijuana at the V.C. Bird International Airport on Tuesday.

The drugs were discovered in two large cardboard boxes containing two 5-gallon buckets and a smaller box with just over 30 pounds of compressed cannabis that were stored in the cargo area.

Police believe the illegal drugs arrived aboard an Amerijet flight from Miami on 5th and 25th February 2020.

 

This latest seizure brought the value of drugs confiscated in Antigua and Barbuda to $1,740,000.

Police said the drugs comprised of 175 pounds of Cannabis and 19 grams of Cocaine.

Approximately 160 pounds of that amount was seized at the airport.

Police have arrested 19 people this year for possession of illegal drugs.
