Prime Minister Mia Mottley will be addressing the nation during a press conference scheduled for 11.15 am.
The notice issued via the PM's Instagram today (August 5) indicates that she will be joined by the Minister of Health and Wellness Lt Col Jeffrey Bostic.
Bostic has been on self-quarantine since the Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George made the recommendation on Saturaday (August 1). The CMO's advice came after nine of the 95 Ghanaian nurses who arrived on island on July 30 tested positive for COVID-19. The Minister was part of the welcome party at the Grantley Adams International Airport.
Today Barbados will also start rolling out its new set of protocols for travellers. The amendments will be enforced from today. Jamaica is on the medium-risk list. Persons from within the "Bubble" will not be required to take the test on arrival nor are they mandated to present a negative test on arrival.
Passengers from High-risk countries are being quarantined whether they have the 72-hour pretest negative result or not, and they must quarantine for 14 days. However, they have the option of restesting five to seven days after their last test. If a negative result is gained persons would typically be discharged.
As of 10 am on August 5, Barbados has 27 active cases of COVID-19. The patients are all in Isolation.
