Equipment failure causes New Year's Day power outage

The Barbados Light & Power Company has provided an update on the outage which affected a number of parishes on New Year's day.
In a statement, the company said that around 7.52 pm on January 1, 2020, there was a fault on the distribution system at the Hampton, St Philip substation.
A section of high voltage equipment failed causing the automatic safety protection system to activate, shutting the substation down. This resulted in the loss of supply to several areas of St Philip, St John and St George.
Crews were dispatched immediately to investigate and to repair the fault. The restoration process commenced at 9.04 pm. and all customers were restored by 11.23 pm.
The Barbados Light & Power Company Limited apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers.
