Greek alphabet in use as Tropical Storms Alpha and Beta form
Created : 18 September 2020
Tropical Storm Beta has developed in the Gulf of Mexico at 24.3°N 93.1°W.
This system is expected to strengthen and possibly become a hurricane in the next few days.
As of September 18, the Barbados Meteorlogical Service indicated that the names of the Atlantic Tropical Cyclones have been exhausted for 2020 as Tropical Storm Alpha developed in the Northeastern Atlantic and was located at 39.9N, 9.3W at 12:30pm.
This means that the use of the Greek alphabet name list for this hurricane season has begun.
The last time this list was used was in 2005 up to Tropical Storm Zeta.
