Hurricane season and water needs: Do you know how much to store?

Hurricane season officially started on June 1.

Residents in Barbados are being reminded by the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) to "act now".

Despite there being two named Tropical Storms in May, ahead of the June 1 date, the BWA is calling on its customers to start putting measures in place because the Hurricane Season has officially begun.

How should customers prepare water-wise?

You must commence the storage of water to assist yourself and your family at this time.

How much water should you store?

Five (5) gallons per person per day

How many days should you plan for theoretically?

Store enough water per household for a minimum of five (5) days or as much as your household requires.

How will COVID-19 influence your prep?

With COVID-19 and the need to sanitise consistently, persons can save more water than they saved in the past to serve this same number of people for the same number of days. Hand washing has surely increased this year.
