OAS suspends General Assembly due to COVID-19

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) agreed to hold its fiftieth regular session of the General Assembly due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The decision was taken during it’s a virtual meeting on Wednesday.

The General Assembly will be held at the headquarters of the Organization of American States in Washington DC, USA.

Another meeting will be held soon to announce a date and a 60-day notice will be given.

OAS Council has instructed the General Secretariat to prepare a contingency plan in the event that the Assembly can only be held virtually.

The Council also instructed the General Secretariat to present the OAS program-budget for 2021, as well as the tentative overall budget level for 2022.
